Background:
NISSI Christian Junior School is situated in the remote village of Kyampengere in the Lwengo District approximately 60 km south of the town of Masaka. The school was started in 2012 by villagers concerned that their children did not have access to primary education in their area. The land on which the school stands is owned by the local Full Gospel Church who have worked closely with the founders to make the school a reality.
The school is operated by a board consisting of representatives from the local church and community and is licensed by the Uganda Ministry of Education.
When Classrooms for Africa became involved with the school in 2016, all the Nursery and Primary grade classes were held in temporary mud and stick structures. Since that time, ten classrooms and an administration building have been completed and enrolment has increased to over 400 students.
