2015 - Construction of a two-classroom block funded by a donor from Western Canada
background:
The Grace Centre aims to address the needs of the people in the impoverished area of Dowa, Malawi. It runs a boy's and girl's home, a community health education program, an agricultural program, a primary school, and a preschool. It is operated by Circle of Hope International, a faith-based community development organization.
In 2010, the Grace Centre started an education program for the children. Grace Preschool began by offering the nursery and preschool, but the education initiative has gradually expanded and in 2012 Grace Primary School started offering grade 1 and 2 education to over 200 students.
Although originally started for the children from the Grace Centre homes, the schools have opened their door to children from the local community as well. The student population is growing, making the need for more classroom space critical.
