Serendipities (unexpected positive consequences)
The Covid_19 pandemic has had many negative consequences worldwide and particularly in the disadvantaged communities where Classrooms for Africa works. As we read the reports from the school leaders, we have come to appreciate the fact that beyond the intended outcome of providing permanent classrooms and desks, there have been unexpected positive consequences for the local communities. During Covid_19 many local businesses have had to close down and there is little work available. Since the lock-down in Uganda Classrooms for Africa has provided over 320 Million Ugandan Shillings ($120,000) for the construction of classrooms in eight communities and 30 Million Uganda Shillings ($12,000) for the construction of desks. The serendipity is that well over 140 local people have received employment on these projects and struggling local businesses have been supported.
